THE  ART OF  ACTING

Over the years and across countries wide, the arts has continually being a basic tool in defining and unifying the  context  of life. It is the picture that is more than a thousand words.it is the landmark that accentuates the flow of occurrence . Being the foundation of things, it is well the paste that holds the brick of life together in place.

Exploring the subject , arts is what is learned .and further requires study ,undoubtedly there is room for what is referred to as “talent” Talent is a natural endowment, natural content inside person which I will prefer calling “potential”

.

If one possesses a potential in the field of the arts ,a student that needs to excavates the description ,the function ,the texture, the application ,the rigidity and the flexibility of such potential .Having such understanding ,I will submit here that arts is what learned because excavation is a function of study .Note here ,that the study may or may not be experienced in a conventional,walled school . The most important is that such a person needs to discover himself. It is what you ‘ ve discovered that would be worked upon.

The arts is a broad colony of specializations.The specializations are accurately arranged under three accepted umbrellas- Fine Arts , Creative Arts ,and the Theatre Arts.

We will not be able to talk about the forms save one: Theatre Arts . Embarassing the theater ,it is further classified into Music,Dance and Drama . The three theatre forms are interwined in each other. Talking about the making of drama , acting is the specialization of focus in this lesson.

ACTING: The profession

Through the same profession or lens law,Medicine ,Political and social sciences are viewed through the same if not through a more magnificient one . Acting is what is learned .Through it, the foundation of the destinies of many is made.  Acting  is like a hammer of silversmith uses in beating the iron into the required form .The study of acting is learned through a life time and community are nourished and made , acting also puts food on the table of those in its practice.

Therefore, whatever you do that either puts food on your table or makes you fulfilled must be patiently and fully learned to achieve the desired result.

ACTING IS LIFE

Drama is accepted to be the imitation of life. It is the either the representation of the content of life. It is either an exact content of what had happened ,what will happen or the metaphoric representation of the state of the society. It might be direct or even symbolic in form , it could be educational , political , religious , or strictly entertaining as in comedy.

Drama had ruled as the economy’s rod of change in many communities across the world.And this is achieved when the content of instruction is packaged into stories is acting. Consequently, if drama is the imitation of life ,acting then is life.

In imitating life, you are bringimg alive through sound and movement,the facts of life Wearing the characters in the story being presented is putting the life of the characters on.

To the tune of the fact that acting is life made actors / actresses of equal to the earlier said professionals.The artistes at one time imitates the life either one or the other.

To be fully made as either an actor or actress ,he or she Is expected to see the profession under the bright light of the following four artistic contents-

In the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ Stephen R . C ovey commented :

Victor frankly suggest that there are three central values in life – the experimental or that which happen to us ; the creative or that which brings into existence ; and attitudinal , or our response in difficult circumstances ……

From the above quotes,we can deduce creativity as that which we bring into existence .it is created made.fashioned .And the function of creativity is imagination ,which is the abiltity to create in our minds beyond our present reality. The making of a professionl/ actor/ actress demands that the artist first fill his content with the creative content .He should posssess the ever – renewed tool of imagination with which he can create whatever role he or she is to play in a production and make it reality.

For instances, you are assigned the role of a young man on a date with his girl on a dinner .if you have never seen or read anything about people in love ,it would be very difficult to interprete such role . But if you have ever seen or read about such , the researched-based part of your imagination will check through the archive to select the file that matches with the required. It is after the creative imagination will take hold of the specimen and have tried with the project at hand. After the refining is when you can come out with a solid ,professional ,true to life piece.

2.Acting as a Human – Centered Content

As discussed earlier ,acting is said to present the state of the society. Since drama embraces facts and lessons about human , acting must be done under accurate revelation of the human life and experiences. Human values are placed as core in its operation .Acting reveals the psychological and the sociological levels of humans . This further suggests that the actor/ actress needs a wider scopical study in humanity courses .You must learn to understand the totality of man including his various characters.

Already bearing the creative content of man including his various characters.

3.Acting as a Kinaesthetical Content

This artistic content have to do with movement .There is no true acting without corresponding movement.

4.Acting as a Rhythmic Content

As much acting is movement , it must be duly executed under a patterned timing .in accordance with the directives from the director and the scripts ,the author’s signature ,movements must be timely designed to meet the total picture conceived.
